Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I want you to know how excited I am to have your child in my class and for this coming school year. I am pleased to be teaching Primary Academic SCILLS, which includes 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Joining us in the SCILLS classroom will be our wonderful instructional assistants, Ms. Mary and Ms. Lisa.

This year we will be using a yellow daily communications folder. This communications folder will go home with your child each day. If your child has any specials or therapies on a given day it will be logged for your information. If you have any questions, concerns or just want us to know something, please write it in the comments section. I look at these folders every morning and promise to communicate back to you each evening. It is important that you Please sign and return the folder daily so I know that you have seen your child’s report.

Each student will earn a sticker for the return of the folder. Once your child has earned 20 stickers, they will earn a trip to the treasure box.

I will begin sending homework the third week of school. Homework will be sent in the communications folder. On the left side of the folder (front pocket) is the homework to be completed that night and returned to school the next day. The right side of the folder (back pocket) is for papers and information that is to be kept at home. Homework will not be given on Fridays. In addition, in the back of the folder is a reading log. Part of your child’s homework is to read or to be read to at least 15 minutes each day. Our purpose of homework is to build solid habits while reinforcing knowledge and skills the student is already learning or has mastered.

I will do my best to keep you informed of your child’s progress, as I feel that close communication between home and school is of the utmost importance. With your help, we can be partners in your child’s education.

Working together, we can make this a happy and productive school year!
