Welcome to Sixth Grade Math!

My mission for the class is pretty simple. I expect students to take an

active role in their education. Students will have a variety of tools to help them achieve that- a Glencoe online textbook with tutor, Glencoe physical textbook, Accelerated Math, Edmodo, Symbaloo, Classroom Dojo, and access to current grades via Infinite Campus. Students will be taught and expected to use them. I believe that we learn from one another, so there will be both independent learning and cooperative learning. Students will also complete online assignments as well as paper ones. I want the students to feel safe and comfortable sharing themselves, their knowledge, and their questions with each other. I expect the students to try new things, do their best (whatever the outcome), and be kind to each other. This should make it a fun, productive, and a comfortable place to learn and teach.

About Me

I received my Bachelors in Family Studies from the University of Arizona. Go Cats! This will be my fourteenth year teaching at Pioneer, thirteen in sixth grade, one in fifth. I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher.

I have two sons, Eddie and Matt, and two step-children, Ryan and Tori. I understand things from the teacher and parent perspective, and know that each kid is unique! Eddie is a senior, and Matt is in eighth grade. Ryan is working in the computer industry; and Tori is a junior studying Art at ASU.

This summer, like others, I spent a month teaching math summer school to sixth graders. I read some fantastic books, and did some outdoorsy things with my husband, Larry, and the kids. I enjoy spending time with my family, learning new things, "playing" on the computer, fishing, and, yes, teaching.
