Can you believe that the 2017-2018 school year is soon coming to an end? This year has truly flown by and I'm so thankful for the amazing students, parents, and staff that have helped make this year great!

Just a few reminders as the school year comes to an end.....

Leftover Medications

Please remember to pick up any medication from the health office that was used during this school year or any leftover medications not picked up yet from science camp or other field trips. Any medications left after the end of the school year will be destroyed per District policy. Reminder letters were mailed to parents to those students who have medications stored in the health office. Please pick them up before the last day of school by 3pm.

Summer Immunizations

5th to 6th grade students: Students who are 11 years old AND entering into the 6th grade will need to have a Tdap (tetanus, diptherhia, and pertussis) booster plus Meningococcal booster. These immunizations will need to be completed BEFORE the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year for those students meeting both requirements in order to remain in school. Summer reminder letters were sent to all 5th grade students so these immunizations can be completed over the summer before school starts. Please submit records to the health office either by drop off or fax to 480-813-9010 before the start of school.

Kindergarten and Preschool: Please refer to the following link from the Arizona Department of Health Services regarding immunization requirements for preschool and kindergarten students. Immunizations will need to be up to date before the start of school in order to be compliant and students to remain in school. Records can be dropped off to the health office or faxed to 480-813-9010.

Just a few reminders on health office policies and guidelines:

Illnesses

Please keep your child home from school if he/she has any diarrhea, vomiting, rash, fever, severe cough, or a contagious illness, such as chickenpox, measles, strep throat, pink eye, or lice.

If your child develops any of the following symptoms, vomiting, 2 bouts of diarrhea, possible pink eye, rash, or fever of 101 degrees and higher, they will need to be picked up from school. If you are unable to pick up your child, someone from your list of emergency contacts will need to pick them up.

Students sent home with diarrhea, fever, or vomiting, are not permitted to return to school the following day as they need to be symptom free for 24 hours. This includes being fever free without the use of fever reducing medication for 24 hours.

Medications

Please notify the school nurse if your child requires any medication for a medical condition, such as diabetes, seizure disorder, asthma, allergies, or any other physical/emotional/mental condition. Per district policy, all medication must be dropped off in the health office by a parent or another adult and appropriate paperwork completed by the parent, medical provider, or both. Medication MAY NOT be brought into school by the student.

Please follow link below for detailed information regarding district medication policy:

Immunizations

Arizona State Law states that all children must have up to date immunization records on file prior to the start of the school year.

School immunization requirements can be found at: Immunizations - Gilbert Public School District

Tdap (Tetanus booster) and Meningococcal vaccinations are due for all students 11 years old and entering the 6th grade.

Crutches, Wheelchairs, and Assistive Walking Devices

Short-term use of crutches, wheelchairs, or other assistive devices require the parent to notify the health office. A note from the parent can excuse a student from PE or other strenuous activities for up to 3 days.  If student needs to be excused from PE or other strenuous activities for longer than 3 days a Doctor's note will need to be provided to the health office.  Please note that this is a new policy effective this school year.

Feel free to contact the health office for any concerns or questions. Your student’s health and safety is my top priority!
